FAQs

What defines a country style house?

A country style house is defined by its warm, inviting, and homely atmosphere. Rooted in Australia's rural heritage, these homes often feature natural materials like timber and stone, spacious verandas, and large open spaces. The design is influenced by the Australian landscape, blending seamlessly with its surroundings. At Smart Homes, our country style homes are a nod to this timeless design, offering a perfect blend of tradition and modern conveniences.

How to design a country home?

Designing a country home is all about embracing the charm of rural Australia. Start with understanding the landscape of your block. Incorporate natural materials, ensuring the home feels connected to its surroundings. Open-plan living spaces, large windows, and spacious verandas are key. Consider adding classic elements like gabled roofs, weatherboards, and timber beams. At Smart Homes, we collaborate with our clients, ensuring their country home reflects their dreams while staying true to the timeless aesthetics of country living.

What is the difference between country and farmhouse style?

While both country and farmhouse styles draw inspiration from rural settings, there are subtle differences. Country style is broader and can encompass various regional designs, from the Australian outback to the coastal retreats. It's about creating a warm, homely environment. Farmhouse style, on the other hand, is more specific, often characterised by traditional farmhouses with large front porches, gabled rooflines, and a more rustic feel. At Smart Homes, we offer both styles, ensuring our clients have the flexibility to choose a design that resonates with their vision.

What is the difference between rustic and country style?

Rustic style focuses on raw, natural elements and a rugged aesthetic. Think reclaimed woods, exposed beams, and unrefined finishes. Country style, while also embracing natural materials, offers a more refined and homely feel. It's about creating a space that's warm, inviting, and reminiscent of Australia's rural charm. At Smart Homes, we pride ourselves on understanding these nuances, ensuring each home we build resonates with the desired style and feel.
